Allergy Treatments

Do you suffer from severe allergy symptoms? Are your eyes watery and your nose constantly running? Do you have a scratchy throat and itchy nose as well? Then you are suffering from allergies. This is a common thing for many people, especially since allergies affect more than 50 million people in the United States.

Allergies make you sneeze and sniffle; they can also make your nose and head feel as if they are “clogged up.” There are several different ways that you can ease your allergy suffering, though. Here are several different allergy treatments to combat your allergies.

Allergy Medications

There are several different types of allergy medications on the market today for those who suffer from severe allergy symptoms. They are primarily used for treating allergies and seasonal allergies. Some of these medications are available over the counter and others are only available by prescription.

Antihistamines

There are medications that are made with antihistamines, which helps block the histamines that are in the air that make your nose swell and burn, and your eyes to run and for some people to break out in hives. In these types of allergy treatments, you can get all types of medications, like pills, capsules, liquids, nasal sprays, and eye drops that have antihistamines in them to help block your allergy symptoms.

Decongestants

Sometimes, your allergies will actually make the lining of your nose begin to swell. Decongestants can take the pressure off of the lining and help the lining of blood vessels and tissues begin to shrink. Once the swollen tissues have shrunken back down to their normal sizes, the congestion is relieved.

Decongestants will not help all of the other symptoms that you may be suffering from though. You could still be sneezing and sniffling. You can get decongestants in pill form or liquids, nose drops, and nasal sprays. They are available either over the counter or specifically by prescription.

Nasal Sprays

There are two different types of nasal sprays, anticholinergic, and steroid. These nasal sprays are meant to treat and help combat your allergy symptoms. The Anticholinergic sprays care specifically meant for helping a runny nose.

The steroid nasal sprays are for when the inflammation in the nose is severe that not even a decongestant can stop the swelling. These are usually one of the first treatment options that doctors will recommend to their patients. It is important to be careful with nasal sprays because they have the tendency to cause a nosebleed or a sore throat.

Allergy Eye Drops

Allergy Eye Drops can be used for those who get allergies as well as seasonal allergies too in their eyes. Some common symptoms of eye allergies include a burning feeling in your eye, itchy eyes, red or bloodshot eyes, and tearing.

The ingredients in the eye drops will help soothe all of the itching and the redness in your eyes. Most eye drops are available over the counter and others are by prescription. They usually give relief fast.

Ragweed Allergy Treatments

Ragweed is one of the most common allergens that people have reactions to. About one in five people are affected in some way by ragweed. The symptoms are usually a stuffy or a runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes.

Ragweed is particularly dangerous because it has been known to trigger asthma flare-ups in asthmatic people. There are a couple of ways to prevent this from happening, however.

Some ragweed allergy treatments are:

  • Limit your contact with ragweed or avoid it at all costs.
  • Track pollen counts so that you will know when they are higher than normal.
  • Avoid peak ragweed times of the day. Usually, between ten o’clock in the morning and three o’clock in the afternoon, ragweed is really high.
  • Nasal steroids
  • Oral antihistamines
  • Allergy shots

If you are trying to find the allergy relief that you need, just contact your doctor and schedule an appointment. Your doctor can help you figure out which treatment option is right for you.

Your doctor can also help give advice about which medications that you are taking and answer any questions that you may have. Get allergy relief fast with allergy treatment options.
